Smaller and definitely not as aggressive. No predatory fish as they tend to get nipped at. Had a few and were active at night. Prefer a black water tank with hiding spots.Does anybody have some informations or first hand experience with chaviro knife fishes?
They are available at the Moment and there is not much Information in the internet.
I heard they are not as mean as carapos and stay smaler?
Had 6 in a semi planted tank and they were awesome. Sensitive to water quality. Gotta keep the water pristine. Is it possible to keep several together in one tank?
I heard sometimes they swim in groups in the wild.
I want to ad them to a peaceful Community tank with geophagus and plecos.
Mine were in a 40g breeder tank. Came out at night. They 6in and got an inch bigger. Never measured but there was growth (slow). I had them in tank with tannins (ph was low around 6). I converted them from semi-planted to a tannin tank and they did well. They will get sores on their skin if nitrates go up. Had a few keyhole cichlids with them and no issues.Great to hear some first hand experience!
Do they come out during the day or only at night?
How big did they grew in your tank?
How big was the tank, any tankmates?
Did you had trouble with them and the water quality?
What happened to your group?
Sorry for so many questions !
No prob. Part to mention is the tank was full of plants and branches so lots of places to hide. This more than anything else likely was the game changer. In general Gymnotus sp are aggressive toward their kin. Maybe I was lucky.Sounds interesting.
Not many knife fishes out there which you can keep in groups.
Maybe i give them a try.
