I am wondering what are some good tank mates for motoros about 9" in size...

I know aros, dats etc.. but I am not interested in them.

I'm wondering about bichirs- and any type of middle/upper tank swimming fish. I'm wondering about tin foil barbs as well.

Tin foil barbs and silver dollars are awesome tank mates

bichirs are risky but it has been done

P-bass are also a popular choice

What makes bichers risky with them?

My pbass are too tiny right now to be their mate.

I will add a juranese eventually.

I was reading an article that mentioned some good tank mates- I would have thought that all plecos would be a no no- but I'm reading that royals can be kept with them.

What do you guys think? I have royals, so I am stoked they could go with them.

And my bichirs (but 2) are big enough that they can't get eaten, and they have no interest in eating anything but massivore. haha.

I REALLY wanted to keep a mbu puffer with them, since they are community, but then I realized that they hunt bottom dwellers- so that's def a no go.

I would not risk any plecos, I have seen the damage they can cause first hand. Bichirs are risky because they eat off the bottom like the rays. Always run the risk of a tail getting bit, the ray getting bit from the bichir trying to eat, or the bichir getting picked on by the ray constantly topping it. I had a Weeksi that kept biting a ray I had. The bichir had to go. Red bay snook, peaceful Geos, pink tailed chalceus, tin foil barbs, dats, Odoe pikes to name a few are good. People love pbass with them but they are big eaters and you end up feeding the fish twice because no food can make it to the bottom LOL

Ok, so... help me with planning guys..

2 motoros @ 9"- M/F
9 1-2" tonfoil barbs

I am going to be buying some dats, but they are 4"- and they won't be bought for a while.

I've got an ornate, 3 senegals, 2 palmas that are all 9"+ that I was thinking about putting in with the rays. But, I don't want them to nip on anyone.. I had plecos in the tank the bichirs are in, and they didn't bother them.. But I don't know if I wanna chance it.

I will add a Juranese, but they are only 2" now, so I've got a ton of time until they are big enough, and by then my custom ray tank will be done, so they wouldn't work together anyways.

I was thinking about putting my 125gallon cichlids (1 midas, 1 red terror, 1 jag) in there, but I don't wanna risk someone freaking out and killing a ray.

ahh! I hate making decisions.

9 tinfoils is a lot, they get quite big and messy. Mine are about the size of my hand and are only about 6-7 months old. Best thing about them is that they love eating ray poop lol

Are you not a fan of silver dollars, I love my red hooks :)

You could try the bichirs as long as you have a place to put them if it becomes a problem

I would keep the cichlids away for sure

I have the foils that max at 8". Got them for $1 each..

Silver dollars of the typical species ppl have run $15 a pop for a quarter sized guy. Way overpriced imo.

Tank size?
