My pair of C.Saxatilis have spawned again. The previous batch of fry are now 2-3" and I have not manages to get a single one sold.

I need to find a way to manage the fry production without disrupting the pair. The best idea I have so far is to introduce a tank mate that will eat the fry a few at a time.

I have a 100G planted tank with plenty of hiding places. So far I have not been able to keep any other fish in the tank when the fry starts to swim. So what I need is something big enough to defend it's own corner of the tank without being big enough to actually be a threat to the pikes who are about 7-8".

Any suggestions?

You may be able to get by with something very fast instead of big.

You're probably not going to find anything, then. Maybe some kind of knife fish would be quick and mobile enough, but IDK if it would just get beat up.

Crencicichla acutirostris and Crenicichla vittata actually would be great fry reducers. :). Only problem is they would probably either get beat up or beat the snot out of your pair. LoL!!

The LFS won't take the fry? That really sucks. I wish you lived closer. :)

Do you think some other large cichlid could work? I don't have much experience with other large cichlid but maybe a jag or festae or something like that?

You have to be careful with larger, territorial, aggressive cichlids like jags and festae. You don't want something that's going to kick the crap out of your pair.

Yes.. I guess it will be hard to find something big enough to defend against the pikes but not so aggressive that it will be a threat to the pikes.

My jag was just fine with tankmates. There's a good chance if you get a few and grow them up that at least one will work for you. Gold saums and Oscars might work, too, but saums are slow growers, so you'll need to get one that's already an appropriate size.
