I do not know what to house with my african malawi cichlids. I want to house a bichir with them (senegal bichir) but I dont know if they would bully him or if he would eat them. I would also like to house a eclipse catfish with them. Would that be okay? I might want to house a crayfish with them, Would that be a good idea?

Tank setup:
55 gallon
decorated with live rock and java fern
natural gravel
4x kennyi's
2x johanni's
3x peacocks
1x acei
2x auratus

Im looking to upgrade to a 75g soon so I could have more room.

I think the Peacocks and Acei will be hounded to death.

2 auratus... well if its 2 males they will fight to the death. male and female... female will be hounded until it is dead... you need 3 females at least with a male.

same thing with johanni

kenyi might be okay if you have 3:1 ratio

dominant kenyi or auratus might dispose of every fish in the tank.... roll your dice but the odds are against you.

You can mix them but not with that small of a tank, i do it but with a 240gal and lots of hiding places......def not crays, they will be a snack either as soon as you put them in or while molting..If you intend to mix species you need a big tank to do so.

^Agreed^
Auratus are demon fish from hell. Seriously.
Johanni only slight improvement.

I decided to move my cichlids up to a 300g that I got from a neighbor. They are all doing great so far, but I gave my peacocks to my friend who has them in his tank. I have not had any problems with anybody killing or wounding anybody so far. I have a majority of females and only a few males. The kenyi's are a 3:1 ratio because I didn't want any problems. Thank you for your answers, they helped me make my cichlids happier!
