Tank mates

Does anyone know of good tankmates to go along with spotteds? i was thinking of getting 1 or 2 spotted's but right now i have like 8 cichlids in my tank and wonered if it would be a good idea or no? if not a good idea what other fish can go along fine with them/

I had a spotted gar in w/ a tank of oscars and texas cichlids, and the gar always struggled to get food. The minnows would always be eaten by the cichlids, and even when the gar learned to eat pellets, it had trouble getting any.

even when the gars get bigger, i'd still say no with those cichlids. gars are predatory, but not aggressive in general. spotted are definitely among the more peaceful gars...don't think they'll do well with those cichlids.

is there any chance that i could get rid of some of my cichlids? because im hopefully getting rid of my 2 oscars and i could get rid of the fire mouths if needed=/

sorry i really don't know much about cichlids....i only had very limited experience with oscars a long long time ago...all i know is they get pretty strong when big, could get mean, and can do pretty serious damage if they want to....thats why i said they probably won't do well with the spotteds. also the food problem mentioned. aren't red devils more aggressive??

good fish to go with gars are fish compatible in size and pretty much mind their own business, like the gars. other gars would make good tankmates, bichirs would work too, aro perhaps (silver, black), and i'm sure there are catfish that would work but i don't know specifically what (i know RTC and pleco would NOT be good). im sure there are cichlids that would work but again i don't know what specifically.
