Im fortunate to have a pleco (rhino) that gets along with my delhezi and weeksii. A little territirial aggression on occasion but no slime coat sucking behavior. I have good sucess with a pearsei also. Very mild cichlids like that work well like jaws mentioned.

some fish like plecos and flagtails will suck the slimecoat, had this problem with a labeo shark and my bichirs. i will say i did keep a flowerhorn in my 110 with my bichirs and it never once bothered them although it did go at it with my arowana and pbass over food from time to time. my royal pleco which was the only pleco i had never bothered mine either but cant be said for all breeds. honestly anything that wont bother it or anything that doesnt look small enough to eat would be good

I wouldnt put a flowerhorn in with bichirs. FH Get pretty aggressive. Cichlids would be ok but you'll want something on the milder side. Acaras and chocolate cichlids come to mind. Mine is with a pearsei.

I had a large Pearsei cichlid with my polys. It kept on eating up the majority of the Hikari sinking pellets. So the bichirs resorted to eating mostly cut up tilapia. Good thing the Pearsei did not have a liking of tilapia.

Think you'll be fine with lots of mid swimming fish species larger than the bichirs head.

Ha mine does the same. Doesnt like raw fish thank god.

Op if your not against ordering online rapps at www.tangledupincichlids.com has really nice aequidens right now

If you want to go with a cichlid look at red Severums. They're peaceful, look nice, and have tons if personality

Whatever you do don't mix them with Acarichtys Heckelii cichlids, they are more greedy than Pearsei lol.:)

I wouldn't be so quick to cross a Lima off, there are two species but only one comes in for the most part, some very lucky people have gotten the larger rarer true Lima. The other, smaller, more common, species is elongatus which only gets to a 1' I've only ever seen one this size, and it is still not girthy I think your Senegal would be fine, especially seeing as how you'll have to get a smaller specimen to grow up with the senegal, but if you are one of the rare cases and get a true lima well, what you do with it is up to you. And as others have said, cichlids can be a hit or miss for different reasons, whether they're to greedy or aggressive.

Thats interesting about the lima's

Op save yourself the trouble and dont donthe cichlid thing. Lol one of the things i like best with polys is watching them eat. Reminds me of a dog. I cant do that unless i feed thawed fish. If i try pellets either gotta be done after lights out or take otherore annoying measures
