I have a 75g running with a 5" Mbu and some community fish on an Eheim canister. What I'm wondering is if I need anything else. Its just the filtration and frequent water changes right now. I'm still pretty new to the hobby so I'm trying to keep my bases covered.

As long as you have a heater (or the water stays warm) you're on the right track.
Test kits are a good idea to have on hand, and make sure to have dechlorinator for water changes.

I forgot to mention that I'd covered the basics. I have a nice heater rated to 90 gallons and the full testing kit. Also dechlorinator and salt on hand in case of health scares. I was more concerned about powerheads, airstones, and the like.

Sounds like your fine. If you dont have much surface agitation you might want to add an air stone but usually it's not really necessary.

Good choice, but what model? And what media are you using?

Its a professionel II, number 2028. My manual is mostly in German so I hope that to be the correct nomenclature. As for media, I've got Substrat pro, EHFI MECH, and something else I can't remember and am too lazy to open the filter and find out. Again with the German though. I kinda got sold on the thing by the guy at my fish shop. I was upgrading to my 75 and he insisted I needed this filter. As my other tank was leaking at the time I found it a good idea not to argue.

Great filter, good media, you're all set in that regard

Is your tank planted? If so, your lighting might be of importance, too. If not, then not :D

I have some anacharis, water sprite, and valeria that were orginally intended to aid the cycling process and survived. They've been doing fine with what light I have and I set the tank in front of a window so I could add a little more when necessary.
