My friends aro jumped out of his tank braking his glass and everything.. the fish was found dead the next day. So we are asking how can we pad the glass or reinforce the glass lids? I know i should build a lid for this tank but right now i kind of want to lay plywood down on top and make holes over it that he cant get out from to be on the safe side... that way if he jumps he will just hit the wood... but i was also think Styrofoam on the glass or the soon to be made lid... so when if he does it be padded... thanks any tips would be nice...

i have a jardini 20inch i think

having a weighed down glass tops should be fine for your jarjar. or any type of top for that matter that could do the job of keeping the aro in as long as it is not ugly in your view. btw, how long have you had this jar and has it ever jumped before? isn't it kind of late to start thinking about this now :) unless you've just owned the fish recently. but jardini's don't seem to jump like the silvers/blacks. i have never seen/heard my jar jump throughout his life.

pics of jarjar and its tank?

aros are natural jumpers. My tank has 12mm (0.5") thick glass covers with a few drilled holes. Its heavy enough. Make sure all covers are in place at all times. I have a 24" RTG for about 6 to 7 yrs now.

Also, try to ensure nothing tempts it to jump. You see a bug on the cover, remove it. And don't place anything on the glass covers too.

I've had him for 3 years and for some reason this year durning its cleaning it started to freak out and want to jump out of the opening... i smacked it once "blocked him" And next month for the next cleaning he tried to jump out of a 2inch opening... failed... But it lifted up my glass to crack it really good. I have no idea what his problem is but a friend pointed out the fact i feed him before i clean the tank so he doesn't bite me. AN he thinks he still has the food in him mouth... I ended with a lid rid just wood and vents...

Yep this is why when i have a party i leave the tank half full and feed him... I love how them leap out of the water to attack one little shrimp.. hah..

OFF topic, but if you think jarjar is 20" then you're probably right. Should change your signature. Because it says "...24"ish..". You just called your self stupid

lower the water level

It's easy dump the glass covers and get some acrylic ones made up

Keep the water level in the tank as high as poss low water levels seam to make the aros jump more

Going to re-set up my tank and was thinking of doing a "net" of some kind. Something with holes big enough to drop food thru. I was thinking it might be better for an aro because it will have a little "give" to it, compared to a hard surface like glass or acrylic. Has anyone seen or heard of something like this?
