Tank Planters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have grown plants to be quite rootbound in these things and the roots did not start to die: the plants just grew more slowly.

I have used that exact strategy that you describe and that is a good option. You can also pot up to a larger planter if you want to keep growing the plant larger.

I've had mostlly rootbinding problems with pond plants and terrestrial plants. The rootbinging of the pond plant cause a very smelly toxic mess in a couple cases. I haven't had any experience rootbinging fully aquatic plants though, (Never potted aquatic plants) but I'd beleive that it could result in the same way if it was left unchecked long enough. The product is clear so it should be easy to see the roots when they are too numerous.

These are a great idea though. Is it your product? if so I wish you the best.

What sizes are they available in? How do i get a sample, hehee.

I still think attaching them to a vertical tank wall would be cool. Eventually the leaves would turn to face upwards.

I really like this idea.....What I would like to see is something similar but in a rectangle shape for Vals, my vals grow east and west however I would like them to grow more north. Containing them will prevent all the shoots and maybe encourage more northernly growth?

That's an interesting idea. I can imagine it would be handy to have a linear planter to get more of a hedge effect with a row of plants. However, this would negate the option of a threaded bottom covering. It would also be more costly to fabricate the screen because it would require a custom die. While I am still only producing these things by the hundreds it is pretty easy to cut those screens by hand. I will need to invest in dies at some point though.

I haven't been back to this thread in a while. Here is a quick shot of a little setup that I put together with plants in Tank Planters. This is a 2-gallon solid glass tank with a betta, some crypts, a sword and some Taiwan moss.
