This past Monday I did the usual 20% water change and now my tank has a dusty appearance. One other thing that I noticed is that my oscar's have white specks all over them and my peacocks have the same specks starting on their fins. What could cause these things? My set up is pretty simple a 29 gallon tank w/ the common spillover type filter, my oscars (2) are only about 4" and the pb (2) are only about 2.5". They all will be getting a much larger home ( Christmas will be good for them). Could this just be the filtering system, also the tank has been set up for about 5 weeks now.

Definately ich. The "dusty" appearance makes me wonder if the tank is even cycled, especially only being 5 weeks old, and you doing the "usual 20%". You need to tests your water. You can get test kits at your lfs (local fish store), or a local Petsmart or similar store. You can actually take a water sample in to a Petsmart or similar and they'll test for you. However you need to keep a test kit, especially having the fish you have as they need good water quality.

p.s. unless you plan on upgrading again, ask santa for a tank at least 3 times the size you have, as that's a bare minimum for 2 full grown oscars ;)

Definitely Ich. There is a thread on how to treat it, just search the forums.

My tank is also going through an ich infestation at the moment so I feel for ya.

Going through the same thing in one my tanks. This one has been established for well over a year, and I have not added fish in at least a month. Oh well.

Santa (me) will be getting a minimum of 120gal. i would prefer to have a 180 but i will take what I can get. As far as the ick goes I'll take a sample to Petsmart. I have some testing stuff but not all that I need and that will be getting corrected this weekend.

Nice! You'll be gold then! Let us know what they say about the water tests.

I just read that the salt won't affect the oscar's but what PB will it affect them in any way that I should be concerned with?

I've never had any problems with peacocks and salt. They are slightly delicate in comparison to other fish, so use as directed.
