Let's say you have a 30, 75, and 180 gallon tank and a 2 inch silver aro.

Would it be better to put it in the 30 1st and work your way up or just put him in the 180 at the start?

are there any other fish in the tanks? i would just put the arowana in the 30 so its easier to find food. and when its about 5-6 inches long put it in the 75 and when its around a foot long put it in the 180.

It would depend on what else is in those tanks:)

if its fishless than do the smaller to the bigger
so its easier to take care of the fish

I would go against the grain and just throw it in the 180 right off the bat (assuming the tankmates would permit)
That would eliminate unnecessary stress of moving the fish to a new home. Its not hard to feed a small aro in a big tank, especially when they get used to the tank. I had a 5" aro in a 300 and it was easy to take care of him:)

if youre going to raise it alone, i've been adviced once by some very very experienced arowana keepers from singapore that aros tend to do better when raised in a smaller tank at first, lets say a 50, then gradually moving to bigger and bigger tanks. they say the aro will feed heartier coz it wont feel as intimidated by a big tank. asian arowanas are raised in growing up tanks before they are graduated to the a big permanent one. i tried this with my green. though i didnt do anything like this with my other aros, except with my jar which stayed first in a 60 coz i didnt have a bigger tank when i got him

I would start it off in something smaller.

I threw 2 6" aro in my 225g off the bat and they are eating heartily. Sometimes i'm pissed at them cuz they never stop eating. So i would say, throw them in the 180g and they'll love it.
