With these F1 and F2 altum angels hitting the market, does anyone out here have any personal experience keeping them?

I have pre-ordered a dozen as part of a large group buy and curious if anyone has had any in the past.

I know Rapps had some F2s recently and sold out quickly.

Its probably a little early to tell with the tank raised Altums being that we are just now starting to see them offered. I am also a part of that group buy. I do know a few members on MFK'ers bought the Altums that Rapps had a while back so you should be hearing from a few of them down the road. The one gripe I hear most about the tank raised Altums is that the bars appear to be somewhat broken and I wonder if they will achieve the same size as the wilds. I guess time will tell.

Hi Just about a month ago I did buy 6 dime size altums from Jeff. They are now half dollar size. They look great and bars are full as of now. I am trying to get some f1 most likely from the same source that you are using. I do keep mine in a 150 tall planted tank. My ph5.5, kh1. temp 84, tds 50-75, and co2. They are the colors of wild altums again very happy so far. hth Ed

The problem with wild altums is the acclimation. Once you get them past the delicate stage, they are hearty, strong fish. I know people keeping wilds in pH 7 - 7.6 with temps in the low 80s. I feel pretty confident that these guys are going to do well.

Well I'm actually going to be able to share my experience with them too. I'm getting a group of them soon so I'm really excited about gettting another Angel, my Phil. blues have totally gotten me hooked on them. I'll be placing these little guys in a 55 for the first 6 months and then they will be going into a 125 after that.

Well hopefully this will go through and we will all get a nice group of altums for our tanks!

Yeah, I hope it goes through as well. What size are you getting? I'm getting the smallest size and growing them out.

I ordered the largest ones because angel fry tend to do better with some size on them. I could have gotten more fish for about the same money, but I figured this time around I'd play it safe with the larger fry.

Ryan I'm starting to think I want to try to get the larger size too. I was trying to save money but figured if I'm going to do this I may as well do it right. I think I'm going to e-mail Kingdom and see if I can change to the larger size today. I'm supposed to be on a fish buying freeze right now lol.

Hi, I have 27 of these F1 altum. Bought three dozen and successfully keep 27 of them. plenty of drift wood in the tank to keep the water acidic. Also very sensitive to chlorine, cause when i do a water change straight from the tap, I will lose 1 or 2 of them (that's how i ended with 27, hehehe). Thus water change for me is usually from the tap to a bucket, add chemical leave for about 15 - 20 mins them transfer water to tank. Feed them daily with frozen bloodworms or minced prawns.

Gravel to be dark color to bring out the browness in them. My father kept some in white gravel and his looked like discoloured alutum.

Good luck. Beatiful fish to own...
