Tank Raised Altum Experience - Anyone Own Any?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
beautiful altums remus. I have been trying to get some for over a year. I think I'll wait a bit on these tank raised fish. so far I'm not liking what I see. don't care for the broken bars. to me they look like long finned silvers.

Awesome group shot! I too am getting the largest size, I have a dozen preordered. I will likely add more to fill the shipping box but will only likely be a couple more.

Remus - what size tank do you have these in?

Hi, I have 27 of these F1 altum. Bought three dozen and successfully keep 27 of them. plenty of drift wood in the tank to keep the water acidic. Also very sensitive to chlorine, cause when i do a water change straight from the tap, I will lose 1 or 2 of them (that's how i ended with 27, hehehe). Thus water change for me is usually from the tap to a bucket, add chemical leave for about 15 - 20 mins them transfer water to tank. Feed them daily with frozen bloodworms or minced prawns.

Gravel to be dark color to bring out the browness in them. My father kept some in white gravel and his looked like discoloured alutum.

Good luck. Beatiful fish to own...

those look like wild true wild altums to me. even if they are F1's then the parents are most likely 100% true altums. with the ones from tony tan coming in as F1 F2. those look hybrid or not 100% true altums.

major difference.

also did a comparison with the captive bred altums and my young true altums here:
