I wanna reseal my tank (8ftx2ftx2ft) I believe its a 240gl. Okay so the seal thats on there now is old and begining to peel; also has algae on/in/behind it (one of them). Okay so my questions are should I go with clear or black sealant? question 2 can I just pull/peel the silicone one section at a time with out the tank falling apart and reseal it one section at a time? Need some advice/instructions

I will post pictures of the tank and materials I have on hand shortly

if the silicone between the glass is in good condition all you need to do is cut the old seam out with a razor and re silicone the inside of the tank to seal it.

Just resealed a 20 gallon, small compared to what you're doing but similar. All you have to do is cut the silicone out inside the tank, DO NOT cut apart the actual pieces of glass unless you do want to do that. I used GE 1 silicone. It has been about 72 hours since I did my and it's looking good, just have to cut away spots that i got messy with. But it's simply don't be afraid, I was at first. But after you are done do a test fill before actually filling it up all the way

The silicone inside the tank is to seal the tank and has no structural purpose, so yes you can remove all the inside silicone. I would go with black just because I don't see if often. Also remember when your doing it to go fast and do it all at once. (silicone doesn't adhere well to old silicone)

I recently resealed my 110 and I used about 4x more silicone then necessary, so remember a little silicone goes a long way.

okay, questions since its not structural can i just pull/peel it off OR should I use a razor and cut what I want off? About how many tubes will you think I'll need? When you resealed did you use a tool or your finger. thanks for your/everyones help. plan on doing this soon, hopefully this weekend.

You will have to use a razor blade to remove all of the old silicone from the inside of the tank. New silicone will not bond to old silicone. So be sure to get all the old out.Their will be a thin film of silicone after removing a majority of the old stuff. You will need to scrap it off with a razor blade. Use your finger to feel for the film as you may not be able to see it but can feel it.I am resealing my 135 at the moment. I have resealed my 150,55,20 long and 3 tens.

I just resealed my 120G today, this was the second time. The first time around I didn't put enough silicone down so don't be afraid to lay it on thick. I would get 4 bottles of GE Silicone I. I used a little less than 2 bottles on my 120G. Also, be sure to clean the glass really well and make sure you get all the old silicone out. Damp a paper towel in alcohol and then wipe the seems down to make sure all the residue from the old silicone is gone. Hope this helps. It is a pain, but worth it do to it right the first time. Good luck!
