I just picked up a tank that was sold for reptiles. It is a little bigger than a 40 gallon breeder, but is proportioned the same. It has a 1 1/8 inch hole drilled in the bottom and does not have a center brace. The glass is not tempered and I am wondering if it will be safe to use as an aquarium? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Depending on how thick the glass is, most 40g tanks have a brace, so might need to add one... As for the hole, thats easy to plug and hide with substrate.. If you made some changes im sure it would work.. Might want to reseal the corners to, and the test it outside to see if it holds water..

no.. the glass is too thin, it may hold up to the water pressure for a short time, but the glass will fail..

Especially w/o a center brace the thin glass will bow and break.

3/16" is fine! Just clean it out very well, clean around the whole in the bottom with alcohol, and silicone a piece of glass over the whole. Fill it with water outside to test for leaks after waiting for the silicone to dry for about a week. You should be fine!!
