i have a rocky set up with large rocks stacked vertically and horizontally to form a house like structure. its sort of like 3 rooms next to each other and on the top is more rocks. the rocks cover filter completely. could this be the reason why my tank is so cloudy. ive had it for 2 months now and it has to be fully cycled. the tank is about 28 inches lengthwise and i can barely see through to the other side.

I would say that you need to move the rocks away, and also maybe less light. How long do you leave your light on. Have you checked your water quality. That would help in figuring it out for you.

Also, do you do water changes? I cleared mine up today with a 25% water change my first.

Yup.. that sort of bloom happens a lot, especially in new tanks.

I doesn't look green, so it's probably diatoms or bacteria. Not harmfull, but it's not a good look.

I would basically do nothing, except maybe increase the water changes to control the cloudyness untill things settle down. May take a few weeks, but it should clear up.

Cheers

Ian

what kind of filtration do you have on it? like someone else stated i would just do waterchanges, i bet its a bacterial bloom.

i just did a 25% change yesterday and it looked alot better but its cloudy again today. i stay up late alot to finish work so my fish tank light is usually on for a long time. thats why theres so much algae on the rocks. i use a stock filter but i just changed the filter bag so hopefully it will get better.
my main concern is the rock placements. is it ok that the filter is covered up?

I would definately move your intake above the rock level.:)

ok this exact thing happened to me about 4 months ago, all you have to do is wait it out the smaller the water changes the better but do them more often and definatly move those rocks away from the filter intake, what type of filter does your tank have?and cut down your light duration. where did you get the rocks from?

i use the stock filter that came with the tank but my tank downstairs is the same filter model and that one is crystal clear. i got the rocks from the front of my apt place since there are like hundreds of them but i boiled all of them in hot water.
i rearranged the rocks and ima try to keep the lights off more. maybe thats why. the tank looks nothing like the picture i showed. its cloudy green.
