So, Im sure there are another hundred posts like this one, and I dont want to be one of those guys that gets bumped.... but here goes! As if letting 85lb bite trained dogs chew on me isnt crazy enough (Im a k9 kandler and trainer) I want to put a tank with carnivorous fish in my home! Ive seen where I can get 10 2" red bellied piranha for $80. Sounds like a deal to me! Im wanting to know the optimal size tank for my first set up. Im thinking 50,60,70 gallon maybe? 10 for $80 bucks sounds nice, but im thinking 3 to 5 fish though. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Like I said, im new at this thread posting thing..... please be nice!!!

Welcome to MFK - As adults a shoal of RBP's should have at least 20-30 gal. per fish and have more than adequate filtration. IMO a healthy shoal of 5-7 would do fine in a 125-6' long tank. A shoal of 3 in a 4' long 75 gal.

Welcome to MFK. I agree with the 2 above. Make sure you read up on some first hand accounts of people with experience. Piranhas are often not what people think they are.

Thanks for the responses! I've been doing a little research and found some killer deals on some larger tanks on craigslist in my region!

ya try and pick up a 125g or larger used, I got both my 125s on craigslist for cheap as hell.

I keep 13 rbs and 3 cariba in a 125 right now. They are between 4-6 inches.

The ten would be fine in the 125 for a while, you might even try to pick up a few more just in case.

id say get llike 150 plus to start otherwise you will only have to upgrade in the future. get the 10 and in a larger tank you can expect minimal losses as they grow up. leaving you with a 10 fish trong shoal with wouold be awsome. i never had a tak that big so aint sure what youd need for them to be comfortable as adults but the price is a deal so go for it... given enough research and first of course. i wish you all the best

3 in a 70gal isn't that just asking for aggression between em? Get as big of tank as you can find n afford for more fish!

if you gonns go for 10 rbps then get a 125g and up. if you could get a 180g it would be even better.
if you gonna be ordering online then there are many vendors have good price on rbps

My guess is you might have some trouble ordering piranhas online! Their banned in your state.but I guess you know the boys in blue.so I doubt you have anything to worry about.sure am glad I live in a legal state!
