Tank shots and up dated pix!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok, thanks, figures that the ppl at lfs didn't tell me that. I'll put it in one of my shorter 5gl Betta tanks then. Thanks again!, would have been crumby to loose that Bamboo plant, I think it's very pretty, and was only like 4 or 5 bucks. :D

Yo ! Sir ! Is that your new photo on your 'avatar' ? A while back I know you mentioned some where you were thinking about putting up a new one. You said you had lost some weight since your last photo. Wow ! You're looking super, and congrats on the weight loss.:D You probably added a few 'smile' lines on the face since the older photo, but you are looking a lot more healthy now. Good for you mike dunagan, Sir !:clap:headbang2:mwave:

Try turning out all the lights in the room, and wait till night time so it's completely dark, then turn on the tank lights and use the camera flash, the pics will turn out better

Do you mean "Turn OFF the camera flash" ?
I agree with the rest, wait till night, turn on the tank lights but shoot without the flash...

What camera are you using?

Will post better pix tonight,.....got better with cheap-o camera. But of coarse, now I have to get more batteries!:D

It is actually better to turn all lights off including tank lights and shoot with flash. If you get a close up on a fish like this it will look stunning and the background will look black :)

Lights on:

Lights off:

IMO lights off with flash looks better, but you be the judge :)

No, I didn't mean flash off. I use a nikon coolpix, set on macro, flash on.

I'm no pro photographer, but that's what works for me.

I guess I can see how you can capture the coloring of the fish with only flash. It's nice how the flash gets those little glints and specs in the scales. But there's no depth to the shot, there is an over exposed highlight if you get too close, and you run the risk of getting the a giant flash reflection off the glass.

If you want me to be the judge, from a photography POV, it's not as appealing. (IMHO of course) I am a fan of DOF, fall-off, foreground / mid-ground / background...

But, now you've got me curious, so I'm gonna try a few shots with the flash only, up-close on the fish and see what I can get. :D
