I just contacted the store that i bought my female leo from to see how old she was... and i was suprised by the answer... she is 7-8 years old and only about 13.5" she was kept in a 180 since she was a pup... Im looking forward to seeing if she goes through a growth spirt now that she is in a larger tank. What do you guys think on this topic?

i dont think the ray can be 7-8 years old at 13 inch thats the size a ray will grow in 2yrs

right thats what i thought but they have had her since 2001
thats 7 years ago!

Put it in a pond and find out.........

We might not know as much about genetics as we thought.. some humans are shorter, some taller.. max size within a specific species could be greatly varied.. could be mixed with another species and not show the pattern.. ?

but 13" in comparison to BigMama at 32" is a tough cookie to swallow..then again BigMama could be like the Shaq of Leopoldi and your little one could be the Spud Webb..?

We will see how it grows out, eh?

It could be true. I know its possible anyway.

My LFS have a 250x80x70 cm tank with 4 motoros. They grow about an inch pr. year.
They only get what the discus cant eat.
Also, rays dont need as much food as people like to think. Most fish will eat like pigs if you let them. Just look at discus when you feed them beefheart. ;) They dont grow/eat like that in nature!

Rays only grow super fast cos people powerfeed them!

I know of a Scobina female that stopped growing 3-4 years ago. Shes only 7.1" now.
The same owner have yet another female scobina. Shes 16" :D

I think your on to something Miles. ;)

A lfs close to me has a male motoro that is about 14" and he is close to 8 years old. He spent most of his life in a 300 gallon pond.

well it looks like we get different replies depending on the thread on this forum

i remember about 8 months ago i started a thread saying is what i have a dwarf p14 as she was not growing that fast and everyone just :ROFL::ROFL::ROFL: at me

now all of a sudden its possible to have dwarf and giat rays makes no sence to me

you may aswell tell everyone they can keep a motoro in a 36x18x18 tank if they find a dwarf motoro thats going to take 8 years to grow to 8inch :grinno:

im not saying that... im more conserned about what else it did to her body as far as reproduction and life span.
She gets huge when i feed her, bigger then some of the ready to pop prego pix i see of rays. I also noticed her stinger goes past her tail, like the stinger kept growing bigger but the rest of her body didnt.
