Well at the moment i have a longnose gar, but i dont have the space for it at the moment, at didn't realize that till after i got him(long story dont ask). In the future, when he outgrows his current tank, im am going to get rit of him.

In the future i want to get another longnose gar, but want to make sure that i can house him for life. what tank size would i need?

I know width is a key factor, but how big would it need to be so i can start planning.

Any help would be much appreciated:)

alright, what about any tank mates, i have love arowanas, could a silver go in there? Or maybe stingrays? could either of these work? I have a channel cat in with mine, and there zero trouble for a while, like 6 months, could a catfish work in if one of those two couldn't?

mine is housed by his self do to aggression issues but thats another point
alot of people on here have successfully rasied gar with arowanas and some have raised gars with fw rays
i have read reports of the rays attacking the gar but doing no real damage since it cant eat it but again this is just from other forums and i havnt tryed this

*note* i also have read alot of reports of gars and aro attacking each other sometimes kill one or the other

o its fine and thanks for the info, im not completly sold on rays though, havn't tryed them yet, and dont want get on and have it die, you no. Any other tank mates, maybe like a cafish, but i no how gars are the perfect shape to be eaten by catfish, but thats the same way with aros. Maybe some polys, like ornate or something? Haha sorry asking alot of questions but im just wondering about this

Polys are suggested by many people
Cats im not sure on. Ive read mixed reports on those with no concise answer. Im leaning toward itll be fine but im not really sure
rays are a quite and advanced fish need good water conditions and a ton of room
if u choose to go with a ray try a motoro ray its more forgiving than most rays(not too forgiving though)

ya i no ive done alot of research on them. Lol you would happen to no any where i could get a 6'x3'x2'(that should be good right, 3 feet being the width) and i think when i get the tank, im going to do some polys with a aro, and maybe 2 longnoses, does that sound decent, im prolly going to have to wait on the aros though because of the difference in growth rate, anyone know how this differs, if the aro grows faster, and if so by how much?

i believe gars will grow faster though im not sure
tanks if u have the patience to do it and do it right you could build one for kinda cheap or check around online and in the mfk market place they often have some good size tanks in there
long noses get about 30" in length so i hear so a foot print of 6'by3' should be fine
personally with that size i would go with a fl/spot
they max out around 20-24 inches and would have more room to turn around
but i believe it would be find with the long nose

alot of helpfull stuff on people building tanks in the mfk article section
