would a 500cm L x 250cm W x 100 cm H tank sufficient for arapaima giga?.

thats a 3300 gal tank.

They'll outgrow most tanks. Yes, you can keep it for a while as previously stated, but a lake or pond is better. I don't have either of those, but I heard that that's where they should be able to stay without having to relocate it. I looked at a juvenile arapaima in a store and I wanted one. I was told I could keep it in my tank for less than a year, so that stopped me from getting one. Someday, though...

Would it reach 8.5 in captivity? Just curious..

It's only last for few years not for life.
Since you living in Asia so you would fell comfy with cm and meter measurement so have you ever see a 2 meters long Arapaima? A publish aquarium only 20 minutes drive from my house has one that live in probably 25000 Gallons tank (if I visit the aquarium again sometime this year I would write down the tank specs).

Hehe ok..

Goin to build that tank by the end of this year, so i guess ill just stick with my aro, rays and pbass for that tank..

I really wanted some giant fish to put in there, so the arapaima came across my mind, thought id double check with forum if the tank would be sufficient hehe

I'm not bashing your dream because it's my dream too :)
I love it and still love it after many years but I never try to keep one due to it mature size :)

TLkm had two 7' pimas in his 13,000 gal pond and it was way too small for them. He lost them when trying to move to 60,000 gal.

Pimas will hit 6' in 2 years with proper care. Probably 8' in another couple years. 10' is rather common in the wild.

At 8' to swim comfortably, a pima would need a roughly 30'x30' or 60'x15' enclosure that's at least 10' deep.

I have two 1-year olds, ~4', in 13'x13'x4.5' and it's getting tight.
