Tank size for Oscar and tank mates

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And I also have been working at my local fish shop for over a year now, so all the supplies I can easily get especially the new tank I'm getting in about 4 months, I don't think I'm overcrowding all the fish are still at a pretty young stage. They won't max out for at least a few years, especially since I don't power feed my fish.

its not something a tank needs unless your water is running heavy metals, better served to replace it with more bio filtration, FYI, Carbon does not remove ammonia. that is what the bio filter is all about. or having a cycled tank. there is also a suspected but not proved connection of running carbon and HITH for Oscars.

Activated carbon does absorb some of the amonnia, and with my experience never had a problem with HITH because I rinse off my carbon under cold water.

i think you would need a loaaad of filtration, if you wnat to continue with canisters, even 2-3 fluval fx6 to handle all the waste they will do, especially with a ray, thay are waste producers !! and 400 gallons minimum, and thats a minimum

I have a setup not unlike to what you propose, minus the ray, it's a 500g with 3500g/h filtration, 150g water changes every second day, 55w uv. Suggest you go over capacity and under stock, add new stock gradually.
Whilst pretty stable to start of with, a big setup can go badly wrong if you overstock.

Thanks for the advice, yah I'll probably over filtrate maybe with 6 canister filters and maybe a sump to go with them. And tank size I'll probably be doing inbetween 500-700 gallons. And I'll be using orbit marine LED lighting system just like on my 75 right now. And yes adding new fish slowly like two at a time every couple weeks is a good thing so your tank doesn't crash. And I'll be running pumps and air bubblers.

And I really don't like the minimum tank sizes, I like giving my fish extra space they come out looking better in my oppinion.

400 gallons and up and 4 Eheim 2262 filters.
