I have a 30 gallon tank with 2 gt's

1 is about 6.14 ( or the length of a dollar :P ) inches the other about 4.5 inches

there is also a small iridescent in the tank who seems to never get bothered however i seem to be getting an increasingly worse algea problem and im stuck with what i have at the moment as far as tank size...what can i get ( fish snail etc) that will not get the crap kicked out of it and will take care of my issue?

let me know thanks.

Tank size issue. You need at least a 75g (for immediate starters) for those three fish, and a pond for the iridescent cat. GT's don't usually exceed 10", so with their beefiness, two in a 75g should be do-able in the long run. But the catfish needs a tropical pond as soon as possible, as its growth will not slow down any time soon.

P.S. Adding more creatures to this tank will not solve anything. If it eats algae, it produces waste.

Exactly. Get a 75g for the gts, and return the I.D. shark or look for someone's pond to donate to.

No chance of a 75 gallon any time soon however i am looking at a 40 long or possibly a 55 gallon max for under my bar inbetween living room and kitchen. It is the only feasible place to put one. well see what happens. thanks for the advice ill just keep cleaning till i can get the bigger tank. I bought this setup the way it was and have been to broke and havnt found anything that i can use cheap to give them more space. This week ill have at least another 20 gallons to give them.

ill keep looking for a larger tank.

With a 75 gallon tank am i going to be able to add other fish or is that just big enough to house the 2 gt's once they are both full grown?

you need to upgrade, the bioload is way too high, which can play a factor in the algae problem

got ya.

ill keep my eye out in the next couple days see what i can dig up

for now ive been keeping an eye on the nitrates doing water changes as necassary and keeping everything clean as i can.

thanks for the help.

maybe ill consider a diy project for under the bar rather then buying a tank :)

time to go look up some diy threads i guess

With your situation, similar to mine, I'd strongly advise the 75 with just the GT pair. Food cost, with annual light bulb purchases, dechlorinator and the occasional live foods and meds should not exceed what you can afford. If you want to enjoy these fish, they can't be guilty of taking too much of your cash away.

but to answer your question a pleco will do fine in the tank. things dont usually bother them esp when they try and find out they are all bone.

Plecos may well be hardy and algae hungry, but adding them to an already overstocked tank rarely solves anything, unless your goal is the acceleration of accumulated waste and hindered immune function and the onset of chronic disease. Add no more fish to your collection and you have a chance.

im 100% with you on getting a bigger tank after hearing what everyone has to say. Already starting looking around going to measure tonight and maybe just go with a diy project that way i can get size and keep cost down.
