will i be able to keep around 4-6 adults in a custom built tank thats 7' x 3.5' x 4' ? ( LxWxH)

I have my four, 2x 29-30" silvers and 2x 26-27" blacks in a 8'x3'x30" tank and it is too cramped. My tank is much better suited for 3 arowana. With the footprint of these two tanks being similar and the added height being no advantage, I would say that tank would be good for 3 adult silver/black arowana

hmm guess ill just stick with 1 or 2 then and get some more in future with a possible idea for a pond setup.

People have so many different ideas what's right and what's wrong

I had a 3 ft black aro in a 6x2 for 7 years which I grew from 6 inch doesn't mean it was right and when I look back on it then it was cruel

Black aros stay smaller so if you want a smaller aro with no drop eye get a black yes they are harder to get but what's the rush hold back until you find one if you are talking about adult aros then you will have it for 5 years + anyway

For a adult black I would go with a tank that's 8x3 min if you can see yourself ever getting a tank this size then don't buy a aro simple

A silver aro would need a 8x4 min if you can't ever get a tank this size don't get a silver

Thousands and thousands of aros are sold each year but how many do we ever see at adult size so what happens to them all

thx for the advice:)

Still some speculation whether or not captive silvers will reach 36".

I'm convinced that even our ideas of what is an "adequate" tank for keeping big fish like aros is eventually limiting their growth. Yes their growth slows down as they get old, but even in a tank as large as yours a 30" fish hasn't got a lot of room. My green went into a 160g at 6" then into a 210g at about 12", and I reckon if it went into a bigger tank again (say 600g) at 16" when I sold it then the steady growth would have continued. I'm sure a 36"+ silver is achievable in captivity if they're kept in large enough tanks as they grow.

no its not josef fritzl i dont even know who that is lol

I kept a 20"+ Silver in a 96x36x24 for a long time. Tank was plenty big for it, but after watching it swim around that tank for about 2 years, it started to seem borderline cruel. Sure thats a good sized footprint, but once you see a couple of 20" fish in it, its not so big anymore.

dam pedophile rapists but what does he have to do with fish? lol
