i was wondering if anyone knows the minimum tank size to reduce jar aggression. i figure more retail means less aggression but how much is needed to reduce it significantly.

well usually if you house a jardini, it can only be alone, unless u house them with fishes that are bigger then them, when they're baby size. Minium that ppl would say is 180, but i think a 6-7 Ft tank is fine, i got mine house in a 125 right now i think its fine. You really cant reduce its aggression unless you get that one and only one that is not aggressive, but the chances are very very slim.

so u don't think a 2000 gal tank would reduce their aggression levels??? it would only give the other fish more room to run to??? i know nothing about arowanas except that i like them and want to have one in a community and i think the jars are better looking. just curious (for now at least) if a bigger tank would work miracles

try a african aro then if not silver. jars are known to be the more aggressive specimen of aros u can try to house it in ur comm tank but there is a high risk

a trend ive seen from threads/posts is that 250-300 gallons+ have been able to have higher success rates of reducing aggression. This doesnt gurantee anything though

i know that a bigger space will reduce aggression. just look at nature for that answer. what i am wonder who here has had a big enough space that they have been able to keep jars with other species with little or no problems or even if that size tank is plausible.

I've seen many jars that are kept with fish but those fish are justa as mean. My jar turned mean at 8 inches and i sold him. I like jars but they arent worth losing fish. They can survive in 125's but they dont turn like silvers do and i would prefer my 150 due to the height so it had room from the cichlids and wolf fish i have. For every person that keeps them with other fish there are alot who fail at this

Jars are aggressive no matter what the tank size. A 2000 gallon tank will be pretty pricey. But if i had the money for a tank of 1-2 thousand gallons i would be looking into other fish instead of an aro.

Are they? I too would be interested to know if they settle down a bit in a JohnPTC-sized tank with other large (and larger) fish. Obviously in the wild they don't kill every other arowana they see (would make breeding fairly difficult!) so there has to be a point somewhere where they have enough space to mellow out a bit.

Anyone seen any in large public aquarium displays?
