Tank size versus Fish growth rate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is not tank size but water quality that stunts fish growth in a larger newer tank there will be less Nitrogenous waste in the tank giving a simingly faster growth but after a point in time that growth will be inhibited by waste. Now If anyone has the time/money/space to preform a TRUE Test on this IE you'll need a Control and keep all other uncontrolled variables at a minimum. I'll be interested to see the truth.

IME the only reason my fish have had a growth spurt from moving to a larger tank is because the tank has been BRAND NEW leaving a possibility that it was the age of the tank and not the size.

Lastly, I'll be willing to bet that the 10gal set-up had higher Nitrates/older than your 29gal

I think he meant it grew 2 inches in a months time, 5 in ->7 in.

After rereading the post, your right. I miss read it the first time. My apologies bones.

Way to many factors.. and way to many variables.. In my experiance as long as a fish has room to comfortable turn around in it's tank and sufficent "room" to move, Is fed well, and has regular water changes ( min of 1x a week, But more is better!) It will not be stunted. I prefer to "upgrade" as my fish grow then go to their "adult" tanks immediately. I would not reccomend this type of fishkeeping to anyone who is of a mind to "they'll be fine w/out a WC this week" My larger species of fish are all growing at the rates they should be, and show no signs remotely of stunting. My florida gar for instance is less then 1 yr old and pushing 14"+ atm.. where the general concensus is 12"+

Attention and dedication to maintaining your fish is the best answer imo. Neither way is wrong, simply executed in different fashions.
