I'm looking to get at least a 110 gallon tank and I want to put my male and female dovii in there along with a couple jack dempsey...is this a stupid decision or will they hold their own?:screwy:

really? my 2 doviis are pretty tame right now

well they may have not yet started breeding at the moment...but once they breed they will not want anything in the same tank their young ones are going to be in...plus as stated above already they need a 200+ gallons to house them both together alone...nothing else is safe to go with a dovii...anything in with it will get flared at, thrashed, injured, and killed in no time...if you want to try it go ahead but you asking your J.D. to write a underwater death note

I had a 120G with a pair of 7inch Jags, they took up all the tank......... Dovii are going to be the same....... and some!

Hopefully you realize that male Dovii can get 24 inches max. 1 wouldn't work in a 4 foot tank.

lol! :bs: get a pic for me, 24" dovii:ROFL:

i pair of dovii can be kept successfully in a 180G but your always better of with bigger, u could do tank mates in a 240G check this vid http://youtube.com/watch?v=lEAT-Gn4lVU, his tank is 240G but realistically u couldnt keep all those o's etc in there, i think he removed alot of the fish soon after and kept the dovii pair and RD pair.

There you go. I hope this doesn't start another dovii size thread, but the reason you don't see them this big in captivity is because most people who keep them don't provide them nearly enough space to thrive. Even a 180 or 240 isn't enough in most cases. I've kept dozens, and you haven't seen them for REAL until you've kept them in a pond of a tank of several thousands of gallons.

These fish should be grouped in with Red Tailed Cats, Arapaima, and many others........ NOT to be kept by 99.99% of aquarists.

By the way, the answer to the original question is yes, it's not a good decision.

those arent 24", look at the hands on the body of the fish, they are maybe 20-21" max u get a pic of a dovii with a tape measure saying its 24" then ill beleive you, this is just like the 20" managuenese myths..
