Really? You think that a TSN NEEDS to be kept in a 1000 gallon pond? And money is not an object here; i was simply wondering IF you could ostensibly keep a TSN in a med-large size indoor aquaria and judging the inflammatory remarks by that kid and yourself, you believe that a TSN needs at least 1,000 gallons of water in order for it to survive, am I correct?

im sorry if it seemed like i was attacking you, i truly am.
what i am saying is that a tsn will not survive to its full life expectancy if kept is a medium sized tank as you described, these animals are capable of living into their twenties but in a 180 gallon the will die much younger than that

I also appoligize for coming off in a flaming way, it's just that I have seen many pople come through this site wanting one with insufficent space prior to gettng a large catfish, that I hate to see any more come through here without the proper knowledge of the fish and it's requirments. The Monster Catfish thread sticky on here is a good source of information also.

i agree and disagree with this thread. however, i have owned these fish and its much more rewarding to let it grow to its full potential. these fish are just not well suited to aquariums. id do a pond. im not saying 1000+ gals because gallons are horse ****. footprint is what matters. use your head. if your fish gets to be 2'(fairly average although people will preach differently) the tank should be wider than 2'. the fish should be able to live comfortably and you shouldnt have to over filter the **** out of your tank. ponds are much easier in the long run. 8x4 is well above what most people can provide so in my personal opinion if you can dedicate atleast 6x3x3 i say why the hell not.

they need a bigger tank than you would think, these fish are not only cruisers when given adequate space, but they also have very long whiskers. In a 2 foot wide tank, their whiskers will be constantly touching both sides, this makes them very uncomfortable and unhappy, think about it, would you be happy if no matter where you went, your hands were always touching the walls on either side of you. Personally i'd say 8-10'X4' as a min.

why do you ask if you already have your answer just curious

i wanted a "second opinion" just to make sure, and as you can see, there have been many varying answers. i thought that would have been rather obvious.

Youve asked a question and most people have said that a 180 or 240 isnt big enough by a long way but it sounds like you dont want to listen to the answers,as diskboy said, its not just about having one that will survive its having one that is as happy and comfortable, the reason they dont grow to their potential has also been said, yes you could have one but it will not be comfortable and will not live as long as it should.
Also saying that some people have not got the time for a 200g wc THEN DONT GET A FISH THAT NEEDS ONE!!!
I will be having a 9ftx4.5ftx3ft high tank soon and id consider this a good size for a tsn,but im not having one because it will probably eat all my other smaller fish.
A 240 would be a nice size for a lima, why not get a few of those.

Good luck and please listen to the advice given.

i think a 360 would be fine something that's 3 feet wide is doable
