tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
well lets see the flaws in your post.

first one is any atf that is posted is small and they grow ver very slow so they will need the footprint a long way down the road. most peoples atfs die before they will need that footprint for one reason or another.

second i know of several members with gators and they have them in ponds and large displays. you see alot of small ones that will die before they need that footprint.

if you got a problem with gators and atf then why dont you say amything about rays? they get just as big yet the problem isnt there? here is the short rays are harder to keep amd more expensive so kids in the parents house cant get them 9/10 times. thus there isnt as big of a problem with tank size.

most aros will need that footprint within 10-12 months if cared for properly. in that time people think it is
longer then it is then before they know it they have no space.

so in short spoiled kids get their parents to buy them these cool fish so they cant brag about it and they dont know or have the ability to care fo them. then they lose them and get another. dont worry the 1000's of rtcs that get bought every year will make it into a pond for sure.

So.... because an ATF is a slow grower and will probably die before hitting 2ft it's ok to purchase and keep in a tank smaller than 100 gallons but not ok for an arowana? Ok? and the same go's for Gator Gars? Both fish that have the potential to grow more than 2x the size of most arowana's?

Why did I not mention rays or RTC's? Because I didn't know asking such a question required me to reffer to any and all fish. Is this in the MFK rules that I have missed? I must add that in the ray section you will see the most large tanks that you will see in any section of mfk. The ratio of large footprint tanks for rays vs. gator gar and GATF posts alone should cover me not mentioning them.

There were no flaws in my post, just no valid answers to my question in yours.

full of flaws. flaws all around. just like this post you have here. like stated welcome to the twilight zone here dayak makes the rules and everything else is just a toy. dont you see in all your experience of reading my reply is the standard reply? i know i know it is hard to see a smartasz from the computer screen, but if you did read anything you know were i truely stand. but you didnt you skimmed through a few threads and formulated you ideas and ran with them, just like the op. open your eyes and look around. you are on the internet. ray displays are large because the fish cost more. if you buy one you will have the display for it and know what is going one. unless it is a retic. everyone gets a retic and most have no clue. then the ray dies. if an aro was expensive it would be housed right. look at asian aros. how many of them are kept in a 55gal for life like silver aros, gators and rtc? oh wait they are highly priced so the people care mire for them. if they were cheap then the result would be the same. read into my post and dont take all at face value i f with everyone.

From viewing all the different sections this site has to offer, I've found that the arowana section has the harshest critique when it comes to tank size but how many people post gator gars and GATF's and it's ok? I have yet to see someone on here that has a footprint that is required for such a beast.

Sounds like a question that should be asked in the gar subforum or other monster fish forum.

My take, generally gars are raised in smaller tanks to prevent them from building too much speed when spooked and breaking their snouts or backs. GATFs are rare and expensive fish, you generally see advanced or experienced aquarist keeping these fish. So most GATF keepers have a definite growout plan for such fish. Not the frequency that you see silver arowana in a uncycled tank by a beginner who has no idea how fast the arowana can grow.
