Tank smell

I did a big water change and replaced the filter cartridges yesterday and now my tank has a strong smell and it looks like my Oscar now has hole in the head what did I do wrong? What should I do?

Could your water have ammonia? Did you check the params?

Does it smell foul or " chemical"?
 
Clean out the the filter completely with hot water. It might kill the beneficial bacteria though.
 
Ive never heard of hole in the head forming that rapidly but burns from ammonia could be the culprit. can you post pics to help id the problem?
 
Foul smell is ammonia.
Could ther be detritus that were under the gravel?

Do another water change.

How often do you really sit down and observe your fish?

Also depends on stocking and tank size

My sand did get moved around a lot. I observe my fish daily and I took a picture of before I cleaned the tank. When I got the fish it had hole in the head already when I saved it. It just looks like it spread.

your posts are too brief, lack info & you're skipping around on subject matter.
the smell is for General Aquaria section of forum.
The fish Hole in The Head issue is for the Diseases section & needs a bunch of history info & images.
be more thorough & you'll get decent answers.
