Apparently, my tank has an odor according to my wife:screwy:
I dont smell it, but she says it does. Its in my rec room in the basement and she says she smells it throughout the basement. What could be causeing the smell? My water quality is perfect. Its a 75 gal with 1 x 8" oscar, 1 x Jack Dempsey, and a small green terror.
I do frequent water changes, and vaccume regularly. The tank has a sand bottom which is very clean so I dont get it.

Thanks for your help

Gene

Fresh Crabon should take care of the problem. Make sure your siphoning from the bottom, to get the sludge out.

It could be algea that she smells and not exactly the fishy water smell do u have excessive algea growth because it can make a unpleasent odor when exposed to air like when u do a water change but i agree with the others carbon will help.

No matter how good we perceive our water quality to be, these are FISH!! They make a fishy smell. Carbon may help some but fish will be fish and stink up their tanks. Next time she says something, say: "NO SH*T Honey! It's a d*mn fishtank!!". lol J/K---Good luck.

lmaoooooooo, I like that answer!

Carbon eh, who da thunk it, thanks, I'll give that a whirl....how often should it be changed?

oh, and as for algea, unless I'm blind, no I dont see any. I used to get the green slimey crap on the plastic protecting my lights from the water, but I have cut back on my lighting so that problem disapeared

maybe it's her?

yeah carbon will help or maybe gravel vac. ever considered a protien skimmer?

How often do you rinse out the filters? If the filter is exposed to air, and you don't rinse it often, the algae will build up in the filter material.
