Okay within the next 2 weeks i am going to be getting a very big tank in my basement (anywhere from 90-180 gal). I need help stocking it! the fish that i am gonna put in there so far is my 5" oscar and my 4" oscar. I need to know what other fish that will go good with those?:nilly::help2:

hmmmm ithink i forgot all about tropicals since i been working on my pond so much =[ goodluck! and on MFK that size tank is considered medium size ;)

Well seeing how you said its going to be any were from 90 to 180 gallons we really can't help you with your stock unless me no an exact size. I can say however though for you two oscars you going to need at least a 110 gallon just for them two to be housed for life.

with oscars ive found that it depends on the personality when keeping them together. sometimes you can keep three in a 90, other times you can only have one in a 150. yours are getting to the size where their true personalities will begin to show. id hold off on serious stocking until you see how they begin to act as they reach maturity (about 6-8") which should only be another month or two normally

Yea... I agree, not enough information. Just set up your tank watch the fishes reaction and then you can ask if you should be adding anything. If you must add something, just because you feel like adding something, buy a small school of white mountain minnows or goldfish. You'll get to see other fish for a few days at least. ;)

Oh and btw, on MFK we're just dabbling with 180's... there are people here with 50k gallon tanks at their house! That's monster.

yeah 180 for most people here is a feeder tank or hospital tank, even sumps for some people lol. just check out the poll i recently posted and see how many people have more than 180 (figure each voter most likely represents about 50 people)

There are actually relatively few people on this site with over 300 gallon tanks IME (at least ones that post regularly... Some of the most active members don't even have huge tanks). There are a lot of people with multiple large tanks... Not a ton with true monster tanks. IMO monster fish keeping is about a monster devotion to the hobby as much as it is about monster tanks. An anonymous poll isn't really that accurate IMO.

And besides, I honestly respect the guys that are doing things like keeping rare species, breeding stuff, and doing new and innovative things with their setups than some random guy that goes out and buys a big tank and fills it with the standard big fish--aros, big cats, etc.
Like I'm much more interested in jcardonas 190 gallon discus project right now than some other stuff... 3D background, interesting sump setup, custom DIY LED light build...

Sorry for the derail but like everyone said there's a huge difference between a 90 gallon and a 180 gallon and there's no rule of thumb for Oscar stocking as it depends on the individual fish.

not 100% accurate, but it does give a pretty good idea of the amount of water some people here work with. but with that poll it only states how much water, not tank sizes. if someone has 500 1g tanks in a room, then they have 500 gallons according to that poll lol

180 for some people here is a lot, to others is just right, and to some is nothing. from an over-all view of this site, its not too much at all, but if you feel like its massive then feel free to feel that way. "big", "small", and "just right" are all opinions :D
