I would consider it adequate, though not exactly spacious for a 20-24" jar or Asian aro. Your prospective tank being 4" wider does help though.

I don't think you're quite to ray tank size at 6x3 footprint...maybe a growout tank with minimal decor.

beau1990 beau1990 haha I wish lol. Backfromthedead Backfromthedead a 6x3 would not be enough for a male marbled motoro? a 12-16" disk size.

I would not be the man to ask since I've never kept Ray's (never had the tank). In my inquiries and research most ray keepers suggest no smaller than 6x4 as a growout for large rays like motoros, 8x4 and larger for adults.

The bigger issue (again, from research) is that healthy adult rays produce such a bioload that in a smaller tank like 200g maintenance can quickly become an unbeatable catch-up game, especially with multiple large rays!

I would not try it, not stopping you from it though. Best of luck!

If it's me, I would focus on the aro. If I'm able to upgrade for my clown trigger, my 200 might house a solo jardini (similar size and temperament to your asian) one day.

From what I understand, an Asian aro is a grail fish, much like the clown trigger is for me. Proper attention and care for your aro in a proper tank will yield best results and the most impressive fish. Getting distracted with crowding the tank and adding a large competing cohabitant like a gar may not be in your aros best interests.

This is all coming from a guy who's never kept rays or aros though so best of luck with whatever your plans may bring.

That makes sense I still have alot to learn about keeping aros before I get one if I get one its a very big if (Either a big tank or a tegu or monitor) I think my parents would let me get a 180 since that is less than my total tank gallonage now. What would be the best route to go for a costume 180 6x3x16T? Glass? Acrylic? Plywood?
