Tank Support

Heres the short and skinny without dragging this out....
I currently have a stand that is 25.5" wide. I am looking at switching to a tank that is 30" wide. It will not be completely aquatic, as I am thinking of making it a 50/50 turtle/fish display out of it. so maybe half full of water. Will the tank be ok with that ~5" of overhang which is about ~2.5" on each side? yes, no, maybe so? I could play it safe and just add/build side extensions, but I'm feeling kinda lazy at the moment. whats your thoughts?

Howdy,

If the total weight indeed won't exceed the weight of the tank for which the stand was designed, then you should be fine without reinforcement. However, I would go to a home improvement store and buy a thick board the size of your tank's footprint (they will cut it for you). Then simply put that on top of your stand and position the tank on top of it. The board will prevent stress on glass at the overhanging sides.

Build side extentions, you do not want all of that force on the glass itself.

as long as this is just on the sides. Are we talking 20g-30g tank?

it was is a 20long tank, that I was gonna put on a 10/20 tall stand...
I forced myself out of being lazy and sacrificed my sleep before work to cut out a platform of 1/8" or 3/8" plywood, and a thin layer of styofoam... didn't want to, but I guess I'll just play it safer than sorry... :/
