I am sorry to create another thread about the same thing, but the problem is not corrected as I thought.

On my 220 the tank keeps hitting 92F I took it from 3 300watt heaters down to 2 of them. when I get home I will remove the other one and have only 1 heater. I am afraid to open the top of the tank since I just lost a Bala like that.

I can't afford a chiller right now, so what I was thinking about doing was freezing a 1 gallon jug of water and putting that in the sump. My fear is that it might melt before my work shift is up.

While I was home on my break I opened the window in the room turned on the ceiling fan and the attic fan. I have 2 other tanks and they are rock solid at 82F so it has to be the pump or the pump + acrylic thats keeping it so hot.

Any other suggestions? I will do my best to try and save up for a chiller, but at this time I don't even have enough money to finish my build.

why is the tank temp so high in the first place? As for freezing the gal bottles, is a start. As for opening the top, just lift it and put a hotwheel car or something to prop it open.

Not sure where you started off I did not see the first thread. One thing about bigger bodies of water is they hold temps longer. Are you sure theres no heater malfunction? Whats the ambient air temperature? What kind of AC do you have. I can help you through this I work with air for a living :)

Pick up some eggcrate at a hardware store and put it on top of your tank. That will let some water evaprote and some air move and it will keep the fish in. Be prepared for some water to be splashed out though.

Can you put a couple of fans in the sump area? One blowing in one blowing out?

what sort of pump are you using..

I have a Cal T4000, its for ponds but I figured it should work for this also. I will test this out removing all the heaters from my tank, I can check it once when I leave for work and once on my lunch break and again when I get home.

The sumps are covered about 80%, trying to keep the noise level and humidity down.I can install a couple large DC fans on the sump. I have a hard time thinking its the room since the other two tanks are in the same room. One tank is a biocube with a broken fan so I would assume it would heat up to if its the room.

If I find that its the pump I guess I am in a world of trouble. I haven't been able to route the AC into this room yet, so what I have been doing is leaving the door open between this room and the rest of the house.

What type lights do you have? If you are running metal halides then i could see the temperature problems. If you are not then it would almost have to be a heater stuck on.

Pond pumps are not insulated against heat pollution as they're built to operate outside. That may be a good portion of your problem.

Since this is a submersable pump try putting a water channel around your return.

my vote/guess would be to start with the pump..

unless its something obvious like a stuck heater or lights/minisuns
