I have a young adult pair of bgjd. Im currently raising their fry (about 100) in a 40 breeder. They are about 1 month old and the female is still with them. Was thinking about putting her with the male (he is in my 125) into a 30 long. Just dont know if its too small. Only probably be there for about 3 or 4 weeks. the male is about 6 inches and the female is about 4. Thanks

Your better off putting the fry in the 30 and the parents in the 40b

I just bought from a friend a 65 or a 75 gallon from a friend. I may just put them in there this weekend. Thought it would be too small.

My bgjd bred twice in the 40 breeder. I just had to take the male out this past time. He ate the first batch at about 2 weeks old. Fry is about 32 days old. Looks to have about 25 blues. Really like to get the female out. I may just put her in the 125 for now with the male untill i get the other tank set up.

If you're only going to have them in the 30G for 3-4 weeks, just put a divider in. This will "preserve" them until they go into their permanent tank. A 65-70G tank would be okay for the pair if you have adequate structure and refuges in case aggression occurs. It wouldn't hurt (in fact, I would recommend it) to put in a few target fish (Convicts, Firemouths) to keep the Dempsey's pair bond intact.

These are very bonded reason for putting them together is to breed again. Theyve never fought other times together. They breed about 4 times. I dont think dithers for a breeding tank is a good idea. What i normally do is have them together and a week after they hatch i remove the male.
