Tank upgrades and tank bottom.

Duanes, was the 6 ft tank a 125 or a 180? Because ragin is right, that 1/2 foot makes a big difference. Brilliant on the divider with a hole big enough for the female but not for the male. If someday I end up doing a 300 for any kind of mated pair I'd imagine you could actually put the work in to make it very nice and decorative.

Tank is 150, at 24" tall.
Although for most species I find height (territorial) is not as important an issue as footprint.
Cichlids will use the height if it is there, but I have snorkeled with JDs that will defend a 4ft X 4 ft area, with a depth of only 1 ft.
Though as they get older and more dominant, the depth may increase to more than 10ft compared to small subordinate pairs.
The @10" male on the right below, defended a long corridor that tapered off to only inches, but averaged about 2 ft wide, and 2 ft deep, but he patrolled the length to about 6ft, and would drive out competitors until the corridor opened up to the large expansive area.

Fry would probably be fed to another tank or put in a 40 breeder to grow out before being given to a LFS. Carpintis could be added to the list. Ya, most of the fish on the list are too big long term for a 125. Really my question marks were on RTM, Festae and black nasty... in that order from most sure to least sure.

If you have never had parachromis, then get a RTM pair. You have to experience a parachromis they are amazing.
