There are so many thing you could do there are alot of options with a 125 which I'm guessing you have since you used it as reference if you like sevs go for a severum community I had a tank full of gold severums and they got along fine mild aggression and most just dominance so if you wanted to do all rokteil severums go for it it would work I don't see why it wouldn't but to just put something out there no one else has you could maybe do a tank full of geos I would suggest altifrons or one of the most gorgeous geos redhead tapajos they also stay smaller then altifrons so you could fit a few more in the tank

From what I have read, flagtails will school if you get enough that they won't try and kill each other. Maybe about 8-10 in my 240? I think that would look really great! Then some clown loaches on the bottom. No aggression, is what I like. That is why I got out of cichlids. My favorites would always get beat to death.
 
I have about 30 reed fish together. Tried putting some elephant nose' together didn't end to well though because they are teritorial. Kept a shoal of 53 red belly pacu' together ( didn't end well either because they ate the heater cable and got shocked to death) also kept 20 polypterus oronate with 18 red tail cats in a 2000l along with some jewel cichlids and zebra pleco, the jewels and the pleco didn't last a day
