I recently acquired a 225 gallon tank from a friend. It is 72" long, 24 wide and 30 tall. One thing I am nervous about is the tank doesn't have a center brace at all. It is an older tank, not sure exactly how old. The person I got it from only filled it once and never really used it. Do I have anything to worry about?

It may have been designed that way.If it had glass braces that were removed you should put in new ones.

I would not worry.

reason is its only since the mid to late 90's that tanks were built with the braces.

they were designed that way. its likely just an older tank.

my 90 and 65 were purchased in 93, had no center braces and ran straight for 15 years..

just make sure the silicone is still good (perhaps reseal) and you are good to go.

yes you need to build a wood frame around it on the top the tank is to big and will not hold the pressure i just had a friend break his center brace on his 75 and crack!!!

I haven't been able to measure the glass. Is there an easy way to measure it since it has a frame? I'm pretty sure I won't be able to measure the base, the tank weighs about 600-700 lbs empty. I know the glass is pretty thick, I will try to measure it later.

I guess I didn't make it clear but I'm not positive if it had a center brace it all. If it did, then whoever removed it, did it very cleanly. I can't tell that there was ever a brace on the tank. It is definitely an older tank, I am going to see if it has the year on it later today.

The only thing that makes me nervous about not having the brace is because of how tall it is. 30" tall without a brace makes me extremely nervous but I wouldn't doubt that it was made this way.

so the tank is framed? is it framed with metal. if it is, a center brass probably wasnt necessary since its structure is supported through the frame.

if you're talking about what i think you are.

If it is an older tank there is not need for a center brace. If you are looking to put a glass canopy on the tank then you will need one. I have a older 150 that does not have a center brace and I can not find a canopy to fit it,( no support in the middle)
I wouldnt worry about it though
