Tank without center brace

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok the side of the glass is 16mm thick. I don't have a way to see how thick the base is. The frame is made of plastic. The frame is 4 pieces.

Other design options are to put a wide "rim" of glass running around the inside, this can give you a strong structure.
See: "Euro Bracing"

There's no iron clad rule "no brace = break", but many ways to skin a cat, just depends on how it's been designed and constructed.

I have a 225 I just got with the same demensions w/out a center brace looks to have never had one I am filling as I type w/ fingers crossed and eyes closed praying that everything will be alright the glass is pretty thick so I think it will be okay

I would not worry.

reason is its only since the mid to late 90's that tanks were built with the braces.

they were designed that way. its likely just an older tank.

my 90 and 65 were purchased in 93, had no center braces and ran straight for 15 years..

just make sure the silicone is still good (perhaps reseal) and you are good to go.
this is the only person on this thread so far who knows what he's talking about

older tanks were built with thicker glass and are designed to have no center braces (my 150 gallon tank was built like this)

EDIT just realised the thread was 2 years old... why do noobs have to bring old threads back from the grave.......
