On a side note 14 hours of lights on will raise the temp. You really only need 8 hours of light a day I run mine from 11:30am to 8:15pm. That amount of light on my tanks raises the temp a couple degrees a day. What kind and watt lights are you using?

the thermometer is one of the digital ones not the glass ones used in the hind end. the lights are a quad 48" fixture w/ GE 40 watt bulbs. i am gonna work on this issue after work. i'll update later
I had a power head that got a fish sucked into it and just about boiled a 90 gal tank. (no guard) only lost my angels. I could not believe how hot that little motor got the tank.
