TANKED on Animal Planet

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just wish the show had a little more meat and potatoes. It is on ANIMAL PLANET so I guess I expected it to be a little more informative.

If you watched the first season or two of American Chopper, remember how the shows were 75% ish about the bike and how it was built? It wasn't until later seasons that they started really fleshing out the characters. After we got to know them and care for them.

This show seems to want to jump past all the set up right to the fluff of a disfunctional family business. You could drop just about any business behind these characters and it wouldn't matter. If I didn't know any better I'd say these guys were "Everybody Loves Raymond" understudies.

Would it kill their target audience if they gave us a few seconds of information about the hardware and techniques every now and then? What kind of filters did you choose? Why? GPH? UV? What are you doing to the tank from the time you fill it with a hose and the time you put the fish in? Exactly how much time is it? etc...

I don't believe their target audience would change the channel if they spent a little time on it. It doesn't have to be how-to. Just take one step in the direction of reality...you know, for your reality TV show.

I'm a bit disappointed in the show. I thought they were going to show the actual fabrication of the tank and showing more about the filtration systems. All they showed was design and then picking out fish. And not mentioning cycling and making it look "too easy" to set up a SW tank.

i like see the designs of the tanks they make but there are a few things that concern me with it. first is they dump the fish in after fill up, what happen to the cycling process??? before anyone saya you dont know how much time there is just watch the last show (the one about the jukebox). They say in it when doing the stingray tank that they have 4 days to complete it. MMM 4 days to fill , cycle add lots of fish?!?!?! Then they also show a quick climps of filtration on the jukebox witch showed a fluval hooked up...ummm canisters do not make good filtration for salt tanks.
Another thing that i wonder about is the amount of fish they put in at once. Salt tanks you really should take it slow even when stocking it. I like to see how many fish are still liveing a few weeks after they put them in the tank. but for what its worth they do make some cool looking tanks.

They would not be in the business if they did not cycle in some way. I am guessing the transfer of used filter media? If they do that type of install where they instantly add the fish; I bet they constantly monitor the tank for a couple months. Someone should write in

I have watched the show its okay. But i had a feeling they were going to add alot of unnecessary drama and bad scripted acting along with crazy unrealistic deadlines like alot of the custom car build shows I enjoy. But me personally I could do without all of the themed tanks they build I would rather see some huge monster tanks or some custom inwall setups instead of phone booth and jukebox pimp my ride looking tanks.

Come on guys and girls its a reality show, you have to had known it was not going to be in dept as we would have liked. It's all about ratings! Getting to the real nit and grit of what it takes to build and maintain a real monster tank is proabbaly not that appealing to the majority population of people, just how it looks once complete. How many time you have people come over and look at your tank and say wow I really want a tank like that or that size, but would or could never spend the time or money it takes to go forward with getting one.
I actually like the show for what it is worth, a good laugh from time to time, but what's the most amazing part of reality shows, no matter what the subject is, they manage to make drama out oif it...

I find the show very entertaining. If they weren't extremely knowledagable and skilled then their business wouldn't be as successful as it is. The show is edited for it's entertainment value not for it's instruction. If it was more of a how-to like many of you want then it would risk loosing audience members due to it being slow. Many of the other popular shows on animal planet are the same way. Don't blame it on the cast of the show or on AP, but on the dumbing down of Americans and the general populations taste in entertainment. That being said, the do make some indrecible tanks and I would love to be able to see some of them in person.
