Lima are more predatory than scavengers IMO. They'll eat stuff that falls to them if the chunks are big enough (I used to feed frozen silverside to my gar and they ended up 99% of my lima's food), but they're not going to root around the substrate scavenging like other cats will.

I'm having the same problem, I've always kept a few good-sized corys in my tanks but my oscar eats them. I'm thinking of a group of larger cats like pictus or maybe some clown loaches, but the raphael is an interesting idea. Do they still sell the spotted raphs, I haven't seen one in years.

Yes they do sell the spotted kind still. I see the striped ones more often, but I see the spotted ones sometimes.
