Hey guys the thread title pretty much sums up my question. I have 4 male convicts right now in my 55 gallon tank, 3 of them at around 2 1/2 inches and the 4th one about 4 inches. Hopefully I'm correct in assuming that the tank isn't already overcrowded and if so what tankmates could be a viable option for me? Thanks.

Well, wait 4 weeks until you're down to 1 male con. Because you will be. And then add two firemouths (1m 1f) and 1 female Con.. good, easy setup.

Your experiences are not the median judge of sucess....It's the bottom end of the scale, and then there are those who have NEVER lost a convict due to agression....A median is something in the middle. Especially if you put the new fish in soon, I think they will due fine. (get a JD or some blood parrots, or some F.M's) Good luck.

Although my experience fits what I've witnessed over and over, it's not based solely on my opinion. Granted, fish have individual personalitys, but never ONCE have I seen 4 male Convicts (unless they were juvies) grow and live in a 55 together without aggression issues. No doubt there are probably success storys of 5 or 6 male cons in a 55, but the chances of that are extremely unlikely. It's one of the "Could it work? Sure. Will it likely work? No." situations.

I have to agree, eventually more than likely only one will be left. i can't imagine it any other way

+1. It may work out for a while, but once those guys really start putting some size on, I doubt it will be very peaceful.

I once had 3 5" Cons together they were like that for years.

It may have worked for you, but I would be willing to bet that 8/10 times, there would be casualties.

they would probably kill anything that you would put in there
