The land of the pine
so, i got my new 60 gallon cycling right now and it is gunna be a native tank. as of now the only fish i know that im putting in it for sure is a black crappie. I am also thinking roanoke bass and bluespotted sunfish. can anyone think of any other natives that can replace the bluespotted sunfish or roanoake bass? im only doing 3, i dont want any bio overload in there although it will be planted. thanks!

bluespotts are really really small right? maybe another crappie?
yeah they dont get very big, they are all over my pond bacause they have been reproducing in my small pond for the last 5 years. i think the biggest ive seen is 4 to 5 inches. but now only the little ones survive around the rocks because my LMB now demolishes everything he sees. im thinking about another crappie, after all they are schooling fish.

could try it i guess and if it doesn't work then put it back in your pond... sounds really cool the way the bluespots give a nonstop food supply to your bass... cool ecosystem

btw those are really cool looking fish... I wish they were in Iowa

You should try bluegill but don't overload the tank because it gets chaotic and they will constantly fight as I expirianced with my green sunfish.

i never really liked bluegill in aquariums. Green sunfish are the most aggressive fish i have ever had, and im trying not to over load it. as of now im either into:
black crappiex2
roanoake bassx1
or
black crappiex1
roanoake bassx1
bluespotted sunfishx1.

btw, the beast by tech n9ne is one of my favorite songs.

I would stick with just a few crappie. If I ever get my shop done Im thinking of doing a few single species tanks. The some of the state aquariums Ive been to have had single species native tanks and they look great.
