tankmates for a dovii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hehe RTCs are sweet the mucus on a RTC body is very unappealing to other fish so even if the Dovii bit at it it would have sucked to be him :grinyes:

johno stop making excuses about the RTC's mucus, RTC > dovii :D

I have a few good tankmate suggestions for a dovii if you have the room, electric eel, aba aba, wallago attu, bagarius yarelli, jau cat, alligator gar :D

I have seen a male dovii kept with other fish. I have been at a pet store and they had a 300gl display tank. They only had driftwood on the sides of the tank and the rest was open, so none of the fish could really have a territory. The dovii they had was about 13+in and they had a red devil, green terror, jag, trimac, buttikoferi, some vega sp, and about 4 or 5 other fish as well. All of their fins were basically perfect so you could tell that there wasn't to much aggressine. But the tank was pretty packed as well. I asked him how he got them all to cohabitate so well and he said he added them all at once and never changed the tank around.

So you can have tankmates you just have to do it right.

HEHE I was never under any impression other than RTC> than Dovii If I had the room I would have a RTC right now.14 inches is not exactly an adult Dovii but I would be surprised to see one live with other cichlids even at that size but fish can vary greatly depending on individuals. I have also found that having the other cichlids with the Dovii from the start is the best way to go.

I just recently parted ways with my Dovii because my female was terrorizing her mate and he stopped eating so anything can happen.

Just for the record a similar sized alligator gar would not make a good tank mate for a Dovii:grinno: It would snap it like a toothpick. A 10 footer would be a whole different story

my mate has a dovii and a jaguar 2gether in a 180 gal they get on fine...both fish are over 12inches, to :) lots and lots of feders is wats keeps em apart i reckon

I'm posting a reply to this post so that I can get past the #$%@ 5 post limit and view the pictures that all of you nice people are placing on these forums. Please disregard this post and go about your day knowing that I can now, hopefully, view your pictures instead of getting that stupid message about being a second class citizen because I have fewer than 5 posts.

Thanks for all the suggestions! :) I was just curious, as the dovii seems to be one of the most aggressive and large cichlids. I am impressed with the people who have been able to keep their doviis with other fish. lol. Imma gonna leave my dovii solo right now and hopefully upgrade my tank when it gets bigger. Those canines look like they would cause a lot of pain on any other fish - or my arm when it gets bigger.

anyone have any advice on how a Dovii would act with 4 Lima shovelnose as tankmates? They are all very large..... so i have to grow anything I want to try to put into the tank. But I would rather not try a Dovii if he is just going to destroy my Limas that I have worked so hard to grow.

Thanks
