Tankmates for an adult Oscar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Based on my O experience, he is going to be territorial no matter what fish you add and whatever will fit in to his mouth, he will try to eat. So getting a fish his size might hold its own but my O won't tolerate anyone in his tank. I've tried to put my 9" inch leporinus and O together (almost the same size) and O terrorized the lep. I moved O back to his own tank. Show your parents how cool your Oscar is: you can feed him by hand... mine will jump 3-4 inches out of the water to take the food. Out of my 9 tanks, my O is my favorite by far! Hopefully your parents will see how cool they are and drop "the other fish" stuff"... Good luck!

Thank's for all the comments(:
I'll start having a look at those fish now, I was looking at random photos of fish this morning &dad showed interest in some, so I also have another question or 3 about them, LOL.

Is it possible to have a Fire Eel in atleast a 150G? Dad was interested in them.

&I know my mum loves Pleco's (So do I!) So I will probably be getting some type of Pleco aswell.

If the Fire Eel was possible in a tank that size with an Oscar, I was wondering whether that was fully stocked or not? It sounds like it would be, but may aswel ask :P

If it helps, I plan on doing a 50%WC a week on the tank (Trying not to get my hopes up too high, but it's pretty hard!) &I have absolutely no idea on the fliter or anything, but it should be overfiltered (Fan of over-filtering LOL)
I'll probably bombard this forum with filter questions once I get stock organised &get the okay, go ahead from parentals ;)

Sorry, didn't see your post when I posted!

I was afraid of that :S Thing is my parents believe 160L is plenty of space for an Oscar, the only reason I am getting a maybe on this is because they are expecting new tank = new big fish.

&TBH, I am SCARED of Aussy! I used to be able to handfeed him all the time &he would wiggle under my hand when doing W/C's - but that was when he was little, now he's BIG! &I accidently filled in his 'territory' in the tank (A full on dug out area) &he went after me &bit me - I've been scared to handfeed him ever since. LOL.
