Tankmates for Clown Knife

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
bichirs would be good candidates for CKF tankmates. i've kept CKF with bichirs through the years with no problems. just keep the knife well fed and in a very large tank with hiding places and there won't be any animosity.

I dont know about a Jardini.
I dont have experience having a Jardini with tank mates, but i've heard plenty of times that they do best alone.

Silver Arowana might be a better choice.

bro do not keep it with a smaller arowana. even with a jardini. my clown knife who was the same size as my 2 foot arrow beat the crap out of him. now i am currrently keeping him in a pond with 2 RTCS and 2 TSN. so far so good because they are all 3 footers. maybe they dont fight cause the pond is huge or they r too lazy.

Hey all,

I rescued a clown knife from Petco about a year ago, was 3", maybe 5-6" now. He was born with one eye, as there is just an empty hole where his other eye would be. He didn't look so well so I brought him home and put him in my 55gal. I know this will not be big enough in the future, and I have a huge tank (don't know what gallon-age, but like maybe 6ftx2ftx2ft-ish) sitting around to set up for when he does reach that size...

ANYWAY he's fine now, and he's in with a Geo. Jurupari and Surinamensis of similar size, and a wicked old blue gourami that is on its way out. So far, he has eaten a 12" fire eel and a 4" BGK that were in the tank, but won't touch the gourami. Please no criticism, I knew this was a risk when I put him in. I only feed him frozen and flake food. Any suggestions of tankmates for "One-eyed Jack"? Thanks all.

Wait-your 6 inch knife ate a 12 inch fire eel??????????

Some good tankmates are oscars, gterrors, jdempseys, most cichlids of that size that aren't too aggressive or small.

u can try also tall bodied fishes like full grown altuns or gouramis, my CK has been till now with Scalare(angelfish) and Trichogaster Trichopterus(3dot gourami) and they survived... but at 20" i decided to change him to the "beastie boys" aqua.... in picture u can see the Scalare just above his head...

I keep mine with other clown knives, but they get along well with my silver arrowana and I've had success in the past with pike cichlids
