Tankmates for EBJD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like Bala Sharks, but they they become large honestly. My brother had one that was 9 inches, which it died due to a outage at his apartment.

you can try a smaller american cichlid, something that will surely not be dominant over the EBJD but smart enough to stay out if its territory.

for such a fish you can try:

-firemouth cichlid, male or female, these rately get over 5 inches and will put on a show for you flaring their gills but won't fight.

-flag cichlid, male or female, these also are relatively peaceful and max out around5-6 inches,

-port acara, male or female, these max out around 4 inches and won't bother your EBJD.

that being said as with any combination it would be a good idea to give your tank lots of hiding spots.

My 4" female JD will kill and eat any living entity entering the tank its size or smaller (so far 4 silver dollars, several types of tetras, platties, plecos, one firemouth and one green terror)

I currently have a Firemouth in my 125 gallon, that is probable the same size of my EBJD,but fatter.I could possible try putting the the Firemouth with the EBJD to see how it works out.

just my two cents, if the ebjd is aggressive and going into a 40 gall breeder, why not keep it by itself? I had my 7" ebjd in a 55gall tall which has the footprint of the 40gall but taller. The tank looked huge for the little rascal at first but as it grew the tank looked really nice.... swam around and always came up to me during feeding time..... black background and black bottom..... colors really popped out...... I think if you go this route, the ebjd will have an awesome potential to grow to its fullest.......no stress, no competition for food, and plenty of room to swim around..... an ebjd is one of those species (In my opinion) that can be by itself and be just as stunning as a tank full of fish..... good luck.
