tankmates for micropeltes?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
got mine with 2 Pbass, a silver arrow, and an asian arrow. tank mates in this case are either the same length or twice as tall. had him with 7inch dorados and 9inch odoes, he ate one of each. micro's about 20inches. None of the fish grew up together and were added after the micro. I think a lot has to do with luck of draw. I've heard some micros kill fish they can't necessarily swallow so...

Keep fish that are bulky. Fish that a giant cannot lock his teeth on. Pacus are great. They are like tanks xD.

i currently have a footlong micro sharing a 500 gal tank with 5 red pacus and 2 albino common plecos. i tried adding 5 oscars and 3 common bichirs. in but the snakehead killed 2 oscars and injured 3 of them. i removed the bichirs in fear of being eaten. im thinking gulper catfish, peacock bass, endli cheri, asian aro, red tail catfish of about the same size? these fish are quite expensive so i post here before making any decisions..

it seems that your micropeltes has a bad temperament , i suggest just stick to your current community and keep him well fed

endli will do well with micro from my experience, but definitely not peacock bass. it will get roughed up and eventually die

mirco will go for the easiest fish to eat of the lot, even if it doesn't fit well in it's mouth. If the micro has the temperment not to hurt other fish out of non food related aggression, then it should be fine with most fish that don't easily fit into it's mouth (height more important than length) as long as the micro is fed VERY well. I make sure there are always small feeders (that he has no interest to chase unless really hungry) used as dithers and regularly feed promptly every 3 days (larger slower feeders that he'll chase down and clear out in one sitting). The mindset to keep here is that all the "other" fish are always at risk, but frequent feedings keep that risk at at a manageable level. Don't put a fish in there you personally value over the micro.
